Now you know what a Summer Fun list is, but what do you put on it? Here are 50 fun things to add to your Summer Fun List!
- Get a Pool or Water fun Membership-this allows for fun all summer long
- Purchase new pool toys! My kids LOVE new water toys and stores like Five Below and Dollar Tree make it easy to let them go on a cheap shopping spree!
- Start of Summer Silly String Fight is always a fave…Silly String is usually available in May at Dollar Tree.
- Shaving Cream Fight, another fun battle that takes place outside! Hose them off and be aware they may smell minty all day long.
- Visit an Amusement Park. This is normally expensive for our family of 6 but our local place often runs summer specials and deals you can take advantage of.
- Go Shopping, I have 2 girls, what can I say? They love a good shopping spree at Target.
- Visit your local Zoo. Early mornings can beat the summer heat.
- Go on a family vacation. A must do for us in the summer, you can do it on a budget or go big, but traveling is important to our family and summer is the perfect time to get away with out getting that teacher side eye.
- Girls/Boys Nights. We have 2 of each so we often break off into trios and enjoy activities that are more gender driven. Pedis for the girls and superhero movies for the boys happen often!
- Go Camping! We love a good camping trip and there are tons of activities you can only enjoy in the summer!
- Visit your grandparents. Both your kiddos and yours if they are still living, its a great time of year to catch up with the elders in the fam!
- Hang out with each other. It’s free and if you do it with intention, you MAY be able to avoid fighting for about 3.2 seconds.
- Plant something. It’s always a good life lesson to try and keep a plant alive.
- Go to Kids Camp or Vacation Bible School, if they aren’t free they are cheap and the perfect way to get a few hours of quiet! Plus your kids learn about Jesus.
- Room Service Breakfast. Place menus on your kids doors the night before and surprise them with a new tradition…just make sure they understand it only happens once a year!
- Have a picnic, it’s cheap and easy and yet somehow special to eat lunch on a blanket at the park.
- Read a new book…just so you can tell your kids teachers they didn’t rot their brains on electronics the entire summer. We like Half Price Books since we read them fast! Your local library is an awesome resource too!
- Make Homemade Ice Cream! There are recipes that don’t require an ice cream maker and it’s always a great time for ice cream.
- Go watch a movie! We love a good day at the movie theatre and summer movie kids clubs usually provide CHEAP daytime movies!
- Visit a local museum, art, science, history or all of the above! Check for summer specials to save a few bucks on your entry and eat lunch before you go!
- Sleep in the living room. Why? Because its different and fun!
- Build a fort…it’s what kids do. Indulge them and let them take over with all the blankets and sheets they desire!
- Family Froyo Night. My kids pile about 17 pounds of candy on their frozen yogurt so making it a designated “special” event helps save my budget.
- Go the drive in movies! We still have one in a small town north of us and it’s totally a novelty that the kids LOVE.
- Eat a Smore. It’s summer….make it happen!
- Visit the community pool or waterpark for a change of scenery in your swim time.
- Have a water balloon fight, I HIGHLY recommend the 100 at once as seen on tv style ones, how did we ever blow up regular ones? It’s a giant pain and I give up after about 3. Spend the $10 and let them go crazy.
- Car Wash. My kids love when I give them sponges, bowls of water, access to the hose and dish soap. What can I say? My car gets half washed and I feel like they get to appreciate something from my own childhood.
- Be Kind to Each Other. They need the reminder. Sometimes by July, I do too.
- Drive somewhere fun! It gives you an out when you just need to escape the house and don’t know what to do, any drive can be fun if it’s mysterious!
- Eat at a local legend. We took our kids to eat famous fried chicken in a bar. Yep, a bar. Hey you gotta embrace the dives in your community and make sure your kids are legit Okies.
- Go on a Hike, it doesn’t really matter where you live, you can find somewhere to walk or hike for a few hours!
- Volunteer. Check out local community organizations and call to see if your kids can volunteer with you. It helps avoid the brat stage they all hit sometime in the summer.
- Do something nice for a sibling. It’s not happening all the time but with a gentle prompt they even remember that they like each other.
- Make slime! Yes I saw the article on facebook…yes my kids still make it and love it. Even with borax, maybe make sure they don’t play with it for 24 hours a day, 27 days in a row and they will probably be ok.
- Go out for Dessert. We generally eat at home because well, we have too many kids but heading to a nice restaurant is a good compromise for fun and budget.
- Movie Night at Home, pull out your childhood faves or have a movie marathon. Blow up the air mattress and pop some popcorn. It’s easy, fun and practically free.
- Bring a drink to your local Lifeguards. It’s like 138 degrees outside and they help keep your kids safe all summer long while shouting WALK 879,000 times. They deserve it.
- Kids Cooking Challenge. Equip each kid with the same set of ingredients and let them battle it out Iron Chef style. Be aware, you may have to eat what they cook.
- Spend the night at a hotel. It doesn’t even have to be out of town or it can be part of your family vacay, just a change of scenery can be good for the soul!
- Go to a baseball game. Eat a hotdog. Let Dad get a beer. It’s summer in America 🙂
- Celebrate the 4th of July. Just don’t shoot your eye out.
- HAVE FUN! You can make up something on the fly and mark this one off the list.
- Game Night! Break out all the board and card games you never want to play and dedicate an evening to fun. Put your phone down, turn off the tv and laugh at your kids when they lose.
- Craft Day, let them pick something from the 937 youtube videos they watched yesterday and actually execute one.
- Eat a popsicle. Or if you are a #condercrazy eat about 130 this summer, it’s whatever.
- Cousin Camp! Feeling ambitious? Host the cousins and come up with a weekend jampacked full of fun activities. Some of my best memories growing up were with my cousins and I want the same for my kids
- Have a mommy drink…ok maybe not for the kids but if you are having this much fun you are gonna need it.
- Embrace the adventure, the bickering, the 14 hour roadtrips and being stuck inside when its 109 degrees outside. We only get 18 summers Mama and they go fast.
- Forgive quickly. It’s a long summer and they ARE going to bicker. Remind them to get over it quick and extend grace. Threaten them with 15 minutes of hugging otherwise.
I hope this gives you some great ideas for your own Summer Fun list!
