DAY ONE AT FORT WILDERNESS
Well Well Well, where did we leave off? Oh yes spending the night in Palm Coast with the grandparents before we set out to surprise the crazies at Walt Disney World! First stop, Walmart! Just in our first night in the pop up on the road I knew we needed a few things from Wal Mart before we headed to Fort Wilderness! I believe our list had something like snacks, beef jerky, SOCKS and padding for our bed.
Seriously one of the best tips that I have ever taken about camping is making sure you splurge on a super comfy bed!
Remember, we nearly froze overnight in Alabama so a BIGGER WARMER blanket was on my must buy list at this quick Walmart stop! We found this in a simple gray stripe and it is legit the BEST blanket. It’s so crazy soft and warm and heavy! It’s almost like having a weighted blanket and kept us nice and cozy throughout the week! Wal-Mart trip done, we headed off to the FORT!
We waited until we were on Disney property to explain to the kids that yes, WE WERE CAMPING AT DISNEY WORLD!
Our check in process was an absolute BREEZE and everyone at Fort Wilderness was so nice and helpful. We proceeded to our spot and started to get set up. We quickly learned you cannot climb trees at Disney World. The site was IMMACULATELY clean as are the bathrooms and shower areas. We are definitely spoiled to luxury camping after staying at Fort Wilderness. Our spot was just a few spots away from the comfort stations and smack dab between 2 bus stops, one that ran on the Purple line and one that ran the Orange line which helped us get wherever we needed fairly easily even though we chose to not rent a golf cart.
As we proceeded to set up camp…our pop-up camper BROKE.
Yes..we drove across country and one part of the mechanism that allows it to go up and down BROKE. Thank GOODNESS Rob is a mechanic and rather handy. He spent a good few hours under the pop up repairing it with band-aids and twist ties (hey it’s all we had on hand, don’t judge) while the kids and I exercised our patience by heading to the pool. We spent a few hours relaxing at the pool before heading back to a popped UP pop up camper! Hallelujah! We quickly set a few things up and then headed out to meet some of our POSH FRIENDS who happened to be there at the same time!
Next time, our meet up with our traveling buddies and getting our tickets at Shades of Green!
